FAQ

WHAT IS "YMF"?

YMF stands for Younger Member Forum. It is an organization for civil engineers who are 35 years of age or younger.

WHAT IS "WRYMC"?

WRYMC stands for Western Region Younger Member Council. It is part of the annual regional leadership conference, in conjunction with the Workshop for Section and Branch Leaders and the Workshop for Student Chapter Leaders.

WHAT DO YMF MEMBERS DO?

YMF aims to help young engineers transform to professionals by providing opportunities for leadership, professional development, networking, and community service. YMF members host technical workshops, lead community service projects, support local student chapters, and provide social activities. To learn more about our upcoming events, check out our Events page.

WHEN IS THE NEXT GENERAL BODY MEETING?

Usually, SF YMF hosts a General Body Meeting (GBM) on the first week of every month. Anyone can attend our meeting to learn about upcoming events and meet fellow engineers! To learn more about our upcoming GBM, check out our Events page or follow our Facebook group.

HOW CAN I JOIN SF YMF?

Any civil engineer who is 35 or younger, or just young in spirit, is automatically a YMF member and can attend our events. We do not check your ASCE membership status. However, we encourage everyone to maintain an active membership, as a portion of your membership fee trickles down to us and supports our events.

HOW CAN I BECOME A SF YMF OFFICER?

Any registered ASCE member can run for a SF YMF officer position. If you are interested in being part of the officer board, please look out for information about elections towards the end of summer via our Newsletter page.

HOW CAN YMF HELP LOCAL ASCE STUDENT CHAPTERS?

Most SF YMF members were once members of ASCE student chapters, so we are very eager to help the student chapters in the Bay Area. In the past, we hosted resume workshops, presented at general meetings, and led technical tours. If you want SF YMF to help your student chapter, please shoot us an email (sf.asce.ymf@gmail.com).
