Come and join the PG&E Civil Substation team; we have an opening for a Substation Civil Engineering Supervisor. This is an additional supervisor position to our current 2 teams to make 3 teams. This position will be directly responsible for leading a team of Civil Engineers, Design Engineers and Design drafter that provides support for civil engineering and construction for substation projects within the northern half of the service territory. Job Responsibilities (not an exhaustive list, see link below for complete list) Leads a civil engineering team that provides support for substation projects throughout the designated service territory. Promotes accountability through recognition, coaching, training, and development. Encourages teamwork, commitment, and quality work products, while following the ESC contract. Manages bargain unit employees. Participates in key project meetings and provides technical expertise as needed. Forecasts work and matches with appropriate short- and long-term resource plan. Supports resource need for Environmental Services (SPCC) and Civil Standards development. Looks for and recommends process changes to improve civil design productivity, quality and customer focus. Supports related department initiatives. Stays abreast of applicable civil standards and requirements. Qualifications / Requirements Minimum: A 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related technical discipline from an accredited curriculum in the US or equivalent from outside the US. Minimum 5 years’ experience in civil engineering with some experience in electric substations. Our Civil Project Engineers manage a diverse portfolio of projects, guide the work of other Design Engineers, and oversee contracted engineering work. This position is represented by Engineers and Scientist of California (ESC) Union, subject to collective bargaining. This is a journey-level engineer job that requires mastery of the Associate level engineer skills and duties and is responsible for leading the engineering and design of more complex projects. Job Responsibilities (not an exhaustive list, see link below for complete list) Assists with or conducts project walkdowns and works with project team, including both internal and external clients, to establish scope of work, schedule, and cost commitments. Gathers technical information from field data and project team. Provides guidance to design and contractor team members, and reviews design and technical documents. Coordinating with other lines of business, ensures designs and technical documents meet appropriate criteria, quality, and job scope. Participates in periodic design review meetings. Coordinates project activities with other disciplines for routine projects. Under direction, provides construction support and evaluates and makes recommendations to resolve field construction problems. Provides technical expertise and performs engineering analyses, studies, and develops conceptual designs. Conducts walkdowns and design review meetings. Prepares written technical documents such as design criteria, specifications, and reports. Participates in the development of effective restoration plans. Assists in root cause analysis. Approves reports, new drawings, and revisions to existing drawings for projects. In emergencies, promptly responds to facility failures. Represents PG&E to government bodies as required for assigned projects. Our Civil Design Engineers produce calculations, drawings, and deliverables for a wide range of projects – ranging from equipment replacements, seismic bracing, lattice tower retrofits, retaining walls and fencing. This position is represented by Engineers and Scientist of California (ESC) Union, subject to collective bargaining. This is an entry-level position. Job Responsibilities Actively promote safe practices and conduct in accordance with the Corporate Safety policy. Design and retrofit steel structures, reinforced concrete foundations, anchorage, retaining walls, control buildings and equipment supports per PG&E Design Criteria. Design access roads, drainage and soil retention systems, and grading and layout of new substations. Design spill containment systems for large oil-filled electrical equipment for environmental compliance. Prepare construction drawings using MicroStation Bentley Substation 3D software. Provide Construction Administration assistance to the Responsible Engineer, including review of shop drawings, RFIs and submittals. Foster teamwork and innovation and embrace new approaches to accomplish our work more efficiently and effectively. Travel 10% of the time.
